The American Payroll Association is the professional society for Payroll Professionals. Founded in 1982 it is run by a professional staff under the direction of the Executive Director, the member President, and Board of Directors. The Association pursues the following objectives:
APA membership has risen to over 20,000 payroll professionals and continues to grow, demonstrating the high level of interest on the part of the payroll community participating in the wide range of activities available to APA members.
Anyone engaged in payroll administration and/or related fields is eligible for APA membership. APA proudly represents a true cross section of the payroll profession made up predominantly of payroll managers from all 50 states, with a growing constituency in Puerto Rico, Canada, and other foreign nations, whose payroll informational needs are as diverse as the number of employees paid and as demanding as the number of states and countries in which they pay.
Members enjoy a wide range of benefits:
APA's comprehensive library of compliance resources is produced by the Association's experienced team of payroll and employment law experts. Publications are issued in many media, including printed text, e-book, magazine, e-magazine, newsletter, e-newsletter, and CD.
APA's comprehensive payroll education curriculum offers a full calendar of courses and conferences, the Web-based Fundamentals of Payroll and PayTrain®, live and On Demand webinars, and audio learning delivered by teleconference.
Live Payroll training is available in major cities nationwide and in APA's two Learning Centers. Most courses can also be brought to specific locations and tailored to specific need
APA certification is a valuable, objective credential that verifies a specified level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in the payroll profession. Certification helps individuals demonstrate their payroll expertise, secure promotions, advance their careers, and enhance their standing within the profession. APA offers two levels of certification -- the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and the Certified Payroll Professional (CPP). The exams are administered at more than 300 locations throughout the United States and Canada. (Please see below for Military and International Testing opportunities) It is the responsibility of each examination candidate to download and read the applicable FPC or CPP Examination Candidate Handbook. Exceptions will not be made for candidates that do not read the handbook.
